A Lawrence Township parent
My name is Dr. Craig Willey, a proud parent of two Lawrence Township students and a champion of LT schools. When relocating to Indy 16 years ago, we moved straight to Lawrence for what the schools have to offer. We moved here for the dual language program, but we got so much more: a diverse community, trailblazing early childhood education, abundant academic offerings, nationally recognized career and technical education, exceptional athletics and performing arts, and a community committed to our schools and each other.
25 years in education
I have been an urban educator for 25 years, first as a bilingual, middle school math teacher in Denver Public Schools and later as a professor of urban teacher education and researcher for the past 15 years. I understand classroom teaching, educational leadership, urban school systems, and educational policy. I live and breathe this every day.
Community service
Leadership in Lawrence
I lead service-oriented, decision-making bodies in the community, serving as President of the Board of the Lawrence Township Schools Foundation (LTSF) for the past three years. LTSF distributes nearly $1 million annually to fund tutoring, field trips for all LT students, scholarships, and emergency funds, among other programming.
I also serve as President of the Economic Redevelopment Commission for the City of Lawrence, where we work to manage resources that make Lawrence better for its residents.
These leadership opportunities have provided me proximity, perspective and insights that will help me make responsible decisions with the community’s well-being in mind.
